Nurture the youngest members of our community, grow in a career you love and know you are having a positive impact on local families.
With locations throughout our region and hundreds of families trusting their children to our care, YMCA Child Care centres and School Age programs provide opportunities for professionals like you to launch or grow their careers.
Are you passionate about working with kids? Do you want to be involved with an organization that's committed to improving your community? We're looking for people who want more than just a job. The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is a registered charity that supports individuals and families in our community through a variety of services, including subsidized memberships, employment support and emergency housing. Staff become part of our YMCA family and provide a positive impact in their community through their work.
In our Child Care centres and Before and After School programs, a variety of experience comes in handy. Do you have a Diploma in Recreation and Leisure? A Child and Youth Worker Diploma? An ECE designation? Maybe you're working towards your RECE or are a retired teacher looking to work a few hours a week. We encourage everyone interested in a position at our centre to apply: we will take your education and experience into account. If you are interested in help with your resume or job hunt, please click here to learn more about our YMCA Employment Services.
We provide extensive ongoing training so you are always learning and developing your skills to be the best they can be. The nationally recognized YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum is used in our centres and we strive to offer competitive benefits including a health plan, a pension plan, training opportunities, flexible scheduling, a nurturing work environment and a commitment to your career goals. We always look first within our organization when it's time to hire for a new opportunity, so you are well placed to grow with us. Many of our staff started with us on contract or part time positions that led to something more.
"I started my education career 8 years ago as a cooperative education student at the Kincardine Family Y Childcare. After I completed my co-op I realized that this was something that I was passionate about, I then completed my Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship.
Eight years later returning from a maternity leave, it really brought forth the question of ‘do I want to return to work’? When I thought about it did I want to go back? Yes I did! Going back to work was not easy leaving my children behind, but I knew it would be okay.
Some of the reasons why I went back and decided to complete my education at the YMCA: My co-educators are easy to get along with, we are all able to communicate programming ideas and everyone is very accommodating to each other and respectful. I truly missed teaching. There is no greater experience then seeing the child grow and develop in spirit, mind and body.
The YMCA has strong beliefs and a program that is geared towards the children's interests, which allows you as an educator the freedom to adapt and change your programming according to the child's needs, development and understanding."
- Heidi Gibbon, RECE at Kincardine YMCA Child Care
"My time here over the past couple of years has really been an unforgettable and life changing experience. Becoming an RECE and working at the YMCA has helped me to grow and become the person I am today. My amazing co-workers and bosses have made me feel welcome and encouraged since I started. Their on-going support has gotten me through daily and life struggles and I am so grateful to them for their hard work and dedication to this field. They really are such incredible, strong and patient women.
To the parents and families I have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know, building relationships with all of you and being able to see and teach your children every day has truly been a pleasure. Thank you for the opportunity to not only educate and guide your children but to simply get to know and spend time with them.
I went into this career for the children and they are why it is so difficult to leave. I have met some of the most hilarious, intelligent, caring and headstrong children throughout this journey and words cannot express how much each of them means to me. I believe they have taught me more during this whole experience and for that I am extremely appreciative. As they continue to grow and thrive I hope they look back on their time with me and know I valued every minute of it. Each child brings their own personality and spark to the classroom and that is what makes it such a special, rewarding place."
