Dental Health Educator

Grey Bruce Health Unit

Job Description:

Temporary Full Time (Approx. 7 Months to March 31, 2020)

Duties:

  • The Dental Health Educator works within a Public Health team, and is responsible to promote oral health in the community at large in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards and Protocols, and Healthy Smiles Ontario
  • Assist Dental Hygienist at dental screenings and in delivery of a preventative dental program and instruction to various groups within the community, including school children
  • Contribute to inter-disciplinary strategies and planning that support healthy community development

Qualifications:

  • One-year (1) Dental Assistant Diploma from a recognized Community College
  • Certified Dental Assistant Level ll (CDA ll) is preferred
  • Current registration, and a member in good standing, with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association
  • Experience in a dental work environment is preferred
  • Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act (HARP) approved
  • Current CPR certification
  • Certification in reprocessing (eg. MDRAO) would be an asset

  • Ability to communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly, effectively and appropriately both internally and externally
  • Ability to build effective relationships both internally and externally
  • Committed to acquire and maintain the knowledge and skills to meet the public health core competencies
  • Working knowledge of dental assisting clinical procedures
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills
  • Specific knowledge of Health Unit communication systems and appropriate computer software
  • Proven ability to work independently with competency and accuracy and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Committed to a safe and healthy work environment for both employees and clients

Other:

  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work flexible work week required, including evenings and weekends
