About Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce Mental Health and Addiction Services (CMHA)

CMHA Grey Bruce (CMHABG) provides community-based mental health and addiction services in Grey and Bruce Counties. We have multiple funders including the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and the Southwest LHIN and have an operating budget of 12.8 million dollars.  We employ 134 full and part time staff working in both union and non-union positions.  CMHAGB is accredited with Accreditation Canada.

Job Summary

We are inviting applications for a Residential Support Worker on a full-time, permanent basis to provide support services for people who live in our group homes.  It involves mild to moderate levels of physical activity, including the provision of practical assistance in household maintenance tasks and participation in various recreational activities.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) year Diploma with a focus on clinical work and psychosocial rehabilitation
  • Three years of recent experience in mental health and addictions services
  • Knowledge of local community resources
  • A working understanding of the social determinants of health
  • Advanced understanding of harm reduction approach and its implementation in a community-based setting
  • Demonstrated ability in crisis de-escalation skills applied in a team setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals who are marginalized, under-served and who may be at risk of homelessness
  • Demonstrated ability working with individuals living with substance misuse issues and or an untreated mental illness
  • Understanding of and experience with a trauma informed approach to community mental health services
  • Ability to establish and maintain therapeutic rapport
  • A sound understanding of the issues related to meeting basic needs and the long-term impact of institutionalization
  • Ability to work effectively, independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in client’s level of functioning
  • Demonstrated ability to create and facilitate therapeutic group experiences
  • Experience in assessing individual capacity regarding decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and support individual recovery
  • Employment in this position requires a valid driver’s licence and the use of a personal vehicle
