Standing United with Our Community: A Statement from the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce
Owen Sound, August 21, 2023 – The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce stands united with our community in the wake of the tragic assault that took place on Thursday night in downtown Owen Sound. Our hearts are heavy with sorrow as we extend our deepest condolences to the victim and their family affected by this senseless act of violence.
“As an organization committed to fostering healthy communities and promoting well-being and a sense of belonging for all, we condemn any form of violence and aggression. At no time is it appropriate to engage in actions that harm others, and we firmly believe in the importance of treating every individual with care and respect, in alignment with our core values,” says Sarah Cowley, CEO of the YMCA. “The victim remains in hospital with critical injuries – he and his family are members of our Y family, and they are all in our hearts as they navigate the difficult road ahead.”
Owen Sound Police Services report that members of the Criminal Investigations Branch and Community Oriented Response and Enforcement Unit are continuing to investigate.
