YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce Employment Services has been approached to help find a short-term solution to the staffing crisis in 19 long-term care facilities across Grey and Bruce Counties.

The current COVID variant has created unimaginable staffing shortages in these facilities, and they are looking for help.

We are calling on YOU, the people who live in these communities who would like to supplement their part-time income, earn full-time income on a short-term basis, or are looking for ways to get involved in your community and step into the front line.

By stepping in as an Emergency Relief Worker you will be taking on duties such as cleaning and screening so that staff can give their full attention to the residents and know that you’re helping keep them safe.

On top of asking you to help, we have already started to recruit Emergency Relief Workers through our existing programs and connections.  

We are collaborating with our Settlement & Language Services department to tap into a pool of newcomers looking for workplace experience. Language support will be provided, when necessary, through the workplace language pilot program.

We are also connecting with laid-off workers and individuals working part time in the food service & hospitality industry to pick up part-time hours to supplement their income or Employment Insurance.

These are paid, short-term positions that will work with your availability and allow you to work at a facility right in your community. Training will be provided on PPE and other mandatory requirements in place to help keep you and others safe.
