Before & After School Care

Emergency Child Care During Covid-19 Lockdown

As you know the government has delayed in class learning from January 11th to January 25th.  In order to help support our families and our communities the Y is pleased to be offering Emergency School Age programs beginning Tuesday, January 12th at the following locations:

  • Owen Sound - East Ridge Community School
  • Port Elgin - Northport Elementary
  • Kincardine - Elgin Market Public School
  • Hanover - Hanover Heights Elementary

Currently spaces will be limited to 15 children per location, based on staffing, and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. In order to participate, parents must be deemed as an essential worker under the provincial guidelines. This eligibility will be determined by your local municipality.

Once you have requested a space from a contact person below, they will direct you to contact the relevant municipal email listed below. The municipality will then verify your eligibility. The Counties will not verify until you have spoken to a Y staff person.

If you are interested in a space, please follow up with one of the appropriate Y staff:

During this School Age Emergency Care time, children will still be required to participate in on line learning.  Therefore, children must bring their own devices as well as headphones. Wifi will be provided by the school board.  Our staff will ensure that the children in our care follow the on line learning routines as set out by the board / teachers. We will assist them in getting on line, but are not responsible to ensure that they have comprehended and completed the required work.

Children and staff participating in the emergency care will be adhering to both provincial and local Public Health regulations. These regulations include active screening for each child before entering the program. Staff will also be actively screened each day.  Parents will not be allowed into the school unless in an emergency. Staff will be cleaning, and disinfecting throughout the day. The provincial guidelines regarding PPE will also be adhered to.

If you have any further questions, please follow up with the one of the staff listed above.
