Job Description:

DATES REQUIRED:
Hours vary based on needs and experience during May (0-10 hrs per week) and June (20-35 hrs per week). Program runs until September 3, 2021.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Supervisor; Youth & Recreation, Summer Day Camp Assistant Directors are responsible for assisting with the programming, supervision and daily operation of the 2021 YMCA Summer Day Camps.Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and development of Day Camp Staff and volunteers to encourage a strong, engaged team; includes providing direct coaching, leadership, direction and performance management as required.

Assist with scheduling of staff and volunteers and maintaining full staff coverage as required to fulfill department operational needs. Completes developmentally appropriate program plans for specialty camps, field trips, and regular Day Camp groupings. Provides first aid treatment as necessary. Completes administrative duties as required (i.e.: incident reports, emergency reports, bullying forms, payroll, etc.). Actively participates in meetings and/or training sessions (including Child Protection Training) as required; direct delivery of training as required. 

Assistant Director responsibilities also include promoting physical activity through participation, assisting with daily supervision of children, ensuring their safety and happiness, providing a positive environment; building positive relationships between participants, parents and staff; creating an environment of cooperation and friendliness while ensuring growth and development of participants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post secondary study in a related field is an asset
  • Experience working with children 0-12 years of age
  • Standard First Aid, CPR level C and AED certification
  • Applicants 18 years of age or older: successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued no later than 90 days preceding start date
  • Knowledge of a wide range of sports and leisure activities
  • Previous experience in a day camp setting preferred
