Job Description:
The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce Requires:
PHYSICAL LITERACY SPECIALIST; DAY CAMP (position pending grant approval)
DATES REQUIRED:
Interviewing April/May. Training begins in June 2021. Program runs until September 3, 2021.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Supervisor; Youth & Recreation, the Day Camp Physical Literacy Counsellor will develop and implement activities to raise awareness of physical literacy, which is an important component in the development of healthy children. Through active programming, the counsellor will develop fundamental movement and sport skills fostering confidence and competence among YMCA campers while building capacity for leaders to do the same. This position requires a flexible work schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required, based on program needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant – applicants must be returning to school in the fall of 2021
- Currently enrolled in post-secondary education; preferably in related field
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR level C and AED certification
- Applicants 18 years of age or older: successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued no later than 90 days preceding start date
- Experience working with children 0-12 years of age; preferably in a camp setting
- Knowledge of a wide range of sports and leisure activities
LOCATION: YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce and Alexandra Community School
HOURS:
June: approximately 35 hours of training
July and August: 35-40 hours per week (may fluctuate based on camper registration and approved funding)
