Job Description:

START DATE: As soon as possible

ROLE: Direct on-deck supervision of designated area or program(s).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS - including but not limited to the following:

Lifeguard Role:

  • Create a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all members, participants and coworkers
  • Approach and manage challenging situations calmly, while seeking a win/win resolution and being responsive to others’ needs
  • Manage position, recognize and prevent unsafe situations by continually scanning

Perform other duties as assigned; including but not limited to the following (both positions):

  • Ensure all qualifications/certifications are kept current
  • Maintain proper physical conditioning and knowledge of lifesaving principles and techniques put forth by the YMCA, and the Lifesaving Society
  • In an emergency situation, alert team members to situation; administer first aid as required, and perform necessary follow-up procedures including documentation
  • Be familiar with and available to implement and/or assist in facility emergency & operational procedures
  • Administration duties as required
  • Effectively support other staff and volunteers in the performance of their role; work with them as required and assist in their professional development
  • Inform supervisor of any questions, problems or concerns that arise; ask for help when needed
  • Other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) Award
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR-C/AED Certification (St. John’s, Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, Canadian Ski Patrol) an asset, training can be provided
  • Aquatic Supervisor Training certification an asset but not required
  • Current and satisfactory Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check

LOCATION: YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce Health, Fitness & Aqutics Facility

HOURS: Flexible, full time and part time available 

WAGE RANGE: Commensurate with education and experience
