Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance is a member of the senior management team and is accountable for all financial matters of the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce including the preparation of financial statements, variance analyses, and reports for the Board of Directors.

A key function of this position is the development and alignment of long and short-term financial strategy, reporting, policies, procedures, and infrastructure to support organizational decision-making needs to ensure the organization remains fiscally sustainable, efficient, and accountable. This position is also responsible for the identification and introduction of new business systems opportunities and cost-saving strategies.

About You

You are a passionate leader and an excellent communicator with a proven track record of mentoring staff, building relationships, and running an extremely efficient and effective finance department.

You possess a university degree in a related field (i.e., finance, commerce) coupled with CPA designation, 8-10 years of post-designation experience, as well as 3-5 years of progressive, results oriented management, preferably in the non-profit sector. You have experience reporting to an Audit and Finance Committee and experience working with key stakeholders, funders, and related government agencies. Previous successful experience in significant capital investment projects is an asset.

Nature and Scope

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance is a member of the Senior Management Team, accountable for all financial matters of the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce including the facilitation of management decisions through the collection, analysis and interpretation of financial data and key performance indicators, strategic financial advice, and expertise.  The Director of Finance is responsible for the preparation of financial statements, variance analyses, and reports for the Board of Directors.

The Director of Finance will enhance internal and external accounting services, identify efficiencies, improve quality, and ensure due diligence and financial reporting compliance in a complex and changing environment. This position is responsible for providing strong, accurate financial data and analyses, streamlining processes, and working closely with other leaders as well as the Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide people leadership to the full cycle accounting team and their functions (i.e., Account Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash management and payroll).
  • Prepare timely and accurate month-end reporting and variance analysis for the Board of Directors and internal departments.
  • Create and maintain a rolling financial forecast and cash flow projection to facilitate decision making throughout the period impacted by the pandemic.
  • Establish and review annual/monthly forecasts, annual/monthly budgets, objectives, and Key Performance Indicator (“KPI”) reports with department leaders.
  • Design and/or revise formal Finance department staff job descriptions.
  • Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (“SOP”), accounting standards, and internal controls.
  • Development, implementation, and ongoing oversight of medium and long term financial and capital strategy.
  • Management of capital financing, investments, banking relationships, capital debt policies and cash flow to ensure long-term fiscal sustainability.
  • Integrated business planning approach including developing and supporting long term funding models aligned with the achievement of the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce’s vision and mission; support these through the creation and proposal of scenarios, business models and frameworks that enable the rest of the organization to do their best work.
  • Advance social enterprise investment and opportunities to create independent revenue streams and fiscal sustainability.
  • Partner in establishing cross-sector collaboration, identifying, and delivering on merger and acquisition synergies as well as back-house support capacity and service delivery consolidation.
  • Ongoing financial planning, budgeting, and reporting as required to share information supporting decision-making and to meet the needs of YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce’s stakeholders.
  • Shared and integrated organizational leadership, influencing a small team of talented professionals in supporting their colleagues across horizontal organizational boundaries.

·      Oversee the implementation and ongoing assessment of the YMCA’s information technology, ensuring appropriate staff and systems are in place.

·      Ensure that all internal policies and procedures meet best practices, privacy legislation and YMCA’s contractual obligations as they pertain to information management and privacy

·      Approve all software and hardware purchases.

·      Ensure appropriate collection, use and disclosure of personal information.

Minimum Requirements / Work Experience:

Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, or related field. • CPA Designation with a minimum of 8-10 years post designation experience. • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in an executive level financial leadership position preferably in the non-profit sector, which includes experience reporting to an Audit and Finance Committee as well as Board of Directors. • Strong business acumen with expertise in financial analysis/management, reporting, forecasting and strategic planning. • Demonstrated ability
