Maintenance Custodian

Grey Bruce Health Unit

Job Description:

The Maintenance Custodian position maintains and cleans the interior and exterior of the Health Unit building and its surrounding grounds.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Operate powered vacuum cleaners, buffers, extractors, tools and other equipment
  • Empty trash cans, recycle bins and other waste containers
  • Clean all clinic areas to specified infection control standards
  • Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum hallways, floors, stairs, work areas and elevators as per maintenance schedule
  • Clean snow and ice from pedestrian walkways and common areas
  • General landscaping including grass cutting, raking and grounds clean up
  • Clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures
  • Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems, and inform the Facility Maintenance Manager, or designate, if repairs are required
  • Monitor supply inventories and order when necessary
  • Set up meeting rooms as required
  • Opening and closing of the facility as required
  • Delivery of vaccine to healthcare facilities and pharmacies in Grey and Bruce Counties
  • Perform other related duties as directed

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to quickly manipulate or assemble objects
  • Awareness of workplace safety standards, including the OHSA and WHMIS
  • Awareness of infection control standards
  • Knowledge of general office cleaning and mechanical procedures
  • Monitors the details and quality of own work
  • Readily readjusts priorities to respond to pressing and changing demands
  • Basic understanding of appropriate computer software and Health Unit communication systems
  • Relates well with internal and external clients
  • Able to maintain accurate detailed records
  • Able to accomplish tasks as part of a team
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education – Training

  • Completion of secondary school

RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Custodial/Janitorial
  • Maintenance/Mechanical

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working hours will vary within a 35-hour work week; with evening and weekend work required
  • Flexible hours are required
  • Outside work required
  • Heavy lifting required
  • Use of portable and fixed ladders
  • On call responsibilities and availability
