YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce receives Government of Canada’s Community Services Recovery Fund

The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce has been awarded $46,547 from the Government of Canada’s Community Services Recovery Fund to adapt and modernize infrastructure within the facilities to improve processes, productivity, and safety.

The Community Services Recovery Fund is a one-time $400 million investment from the Government of Canada to support community service organizations, including charities, non-profits, and Indigenous governing bodies, as they adapt and modernize their organizations. The Community Services Recovery Fund is being delivered through three National Funders – Canadian Red CrossCommunity Foundations of Canada, and United Way Centraide Canada.

“We are so grateful to The Government of Canada and the three National Funders,” said Sarah Cowley, CEO of the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce. “This fund allows us to upgrade and modernize the YMCA’s computer infrastructure, resulting in improved productivity, security, customer service, and data management.”

“Community service organizations are at the heart of communities like Owen Sound, creating a sense of belonging from coast to coast to coast,” said the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, Jenna Sudds. “The Community Services Recovery Fund will enable organizations like YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce that serve our diverse communities to adapt and modernize their programs and services and to invest in the future of their organizations, staff and volunteers. Together, we can rebuild from the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic and build a more just and equitable future for those in Owen Sound.”

Since receiving the funding in August, the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce has successfully acquired and installed new security cameras, upgraded 15 computer systems, and implemented a new smart teleconferencing system. These infrastructure improvements will benefit our staff and users, including increased productivity, enhanced security, improved customer service, and more efficient data management.

In addition to the system upgrades, the updated hardware and software is expected to positively impact staff efficiency, reducing downtime and enhanced security with additional features. Also, these upgrades are poised to enhance customer service by facilitating faster and more accurate transactions and improving data management through better storage and backup systems.

These results support the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce in providing optimal service and fulfilling its mission to serve and build healthy communities.
