Aquatic Employment Program
We’ve launched a new employment program in our Health, Fitness & Aquatics facility to fast-track future lifeguards into employment with our Y!
The Y Aquatic Employment Program allows participants of our Aquatic Certifications courses to apply to become a lifeguard before they complete the course series. Selected participants need to successfully complete:
- An application including three references, a resume, cover letter and YMCA Employment/Volunteer Application Form
- An interview and swim skills test
- All required Aquatic Certifications, including Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Bronze Cross, and National Lifeguard
Aquatic jobs are ideal for students with shifts available early mornings, evenings, and weekends and adults with full-time positions available. While swim lessons are a fantastic way to learn how to swim and be in and around water safely, they aren’t a requirement to start the Aquatic Employment Program. Along with being a confident swimmer, participants must be at least 16 years of age.
Being a lifeguard and swim instructor can allow you to work flexible hours, swim while you work, socialize with participants and coworkers, and feel a sense of pride and purpose while you keep people safe. Successful participants will build leadership skills that can have a profound impact on your future success. You’ll also make a splash in your community by joining a non-profit charity that works to build vibrant, healthy neighbourhoods.
