The City of Owen Sound has issued a precautionary boil water advisory due to elevated levels of turbidity (cloudiness) observed at the municipal water treatment plant. This advisory currently impacts YMCA locations and programs operating within the City of Owen Sound.
The health and safety of our members, participants, families, and staff is our top priority. YMCA programs and services will continue to operate as scheduled while the advisory is in effect, with additional precautions in place.
What this means for YMCA participants and visitors in Owen Sound.
During the advisory period:
- Tap water should not be used for drinking.
- All water fountains have been temporarily turned off.
- Members and participants are encouraged to bring their own drinking water when visiting YMCA facilities or programs.
- Bottled drinking water will be provided where needed for programs, camps, and child care. Families participating in camp or children’s programs may also send a filled, labelled water bottle with their child if they wish.
- Tap water will not be used for drinking or food and beverage preparation.
- Tap water may continue to be used for hand washing, washrooms, and showering.
Ongoing updates:
The City of Owen Sound and Grey Bruce Public Health are closely monitoring water quality and will notify the community once the advisory is lifted.
Updates from the City can be found at OwenSound.ca/News. The YMCA will also share any operational updates if changes become necessary.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to prioritize the health and safety of everyone in our YMCA community.
