YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce Plans New School Age Program at Huron Heights Public School to Support Kincardine Families

Kincardine, ON – The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is planning to introduce a new licensed School Age Program at Huron Heights Public School, with a target opening of September 2026, in response to growing demand for care options from families in the Kincardine area.

The planned program would offer before and after school care for up to 15 students, with full-time registration available exclusively to children enrolled at Huron Heights Public School. The initiative reflects the YMCA’s ongoing commitment to responding to community needs and supporting families through accessible, high‑quality care.

“We know that reliable School Age programs are critical for families balancing work and family life,” said Cyndy Jefferson, Director of Child Care at the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce. “This planned program reflects our commitment to listening to families and working alongside our partners to create safe, welcoming spaces where children can thrive beyond the classroom.”

The YMCA is working with the Bluewater District School Board to bring its established School Age Program to Huron Heights Public School, supporting local families with reliable, school‑based care.

Keith Lefebvre, Superintendent of Education for Bluewater District School Board, noted the value of collaborating with the YMCA to offer reliable before and after school services at Huron Heights Public School. He pointed out that the partnership helps families and students by providing dependable childcare and contributes to a welcoming atmosphere within the school community.

YMCA School Age programs are designed to complement the school day by providing children with a safe, welcoming environment where they can build confidence, form friendships, and engage in age‑appropriate activities that support their overall well‑being. Grounded in the YMCA’s values, the program focuses on belonging, active play, and positive social development.

The launch of the program is contingent on meeting required staffing levels, and the YMCA is actively recruiting qualified educators to support the potential opening.

Individuals interested in joining the YMCA’s School Age team can view current openings and apply on their website.
