Owen Sound, ON – Community spirit was on full display at the 4th Annual Cobble Beach Lighthouse Fun Run on Saturday, April 26, as 386 participants gathered at Cobble Beach for a day of fitness, connection, and giving back.
Presented through a partnership between Cobble Beach, YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grey, Bruce and West Simcoe, the annual event continues to grow as a celebration of community while raising funds to support programs that strengthen lives across the region.
This year’s event raised more than $9,000, with proceeds shared between the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grey, Bruce and West Simcoe. The funds will help remove barriers to participation, create mentorship opportunities, and provide programs that empower local children, youth, adults, and families to reach their full potential.
Participants enjoyed ideal spring weather and a scenic route along the shores of Georgian Bay. New additions to this year’s event included a Kids 1km Fun Run and a 10km race, expanding opportunities for runners of all ages and abilities to get involved.
“The Lighthouse Fun Run is a wonderful example of what can happen when community partners come together to make a difference,” said Sarah Cowley, CEO of the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce. “Every dollar received supports the YMCA’s Strong Communities Fund, ensuring individuals and families can access programs and services regardless of their financial barriers. As the need for financial assistance continues to grow, these funds help people build confidence, improve their well-being, and ignite their potential. We are grateful to Cobble Beach, Big Brothers Big Sisters, our sponsors, volunteers, and participants for making this event possible.”
“The Lighthouse Fun Run showcases the incredible impact that can be achieved when organizations unite around a shared commitment to community well-being,” said Beth Aubrey, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grey, Bruce and West Simcoe. “We are proud to partner with the YMCA and Cobble Beach on an event that not only brings people together through health and recreation, but also generates vital support for programs that help children and youth thrive. Every participant, volunteer, and sponsor has played a role in creating brighter futures for young people across our region.”
The success of the event reflects the strength of collaboration between organizations that share a commitment to building a healthier, more connected community. Through the combined efforts of staff, volunteers, sponsors, and participants, the Lighthouse Fun Run has become a meaningful tradition that supports local programs while bringing people together.
A special thank you is extended to this year’s sponsors: Three Sheets Brewing, Woodley Care Services, Physio Care Owen Sound, Runners Den, Stressless Moves, and Miller Waste Systems – for their generous support in helping make the event possible. The organizing partners also extend their sincere appreciation to Cobble Beach for their ongoing leadership and partnership in hosting the event over the past four years.
