Aquatic Activities at the YMCA

Aquatic Fitness Classes
Looking to mix up your workout? Try a fitness class in the pool.
Water adds a new level of support and challenge. Its resistance helps you build strength and endurance, while its buoyancy eases pressure on your joints. You get a heart-healthy workout that’s effective and gentle at the same time.
All classes are led by trained YMCA Instructors and are suitable for every fitness level. You choose the pace, intensity, and movements that feel right for you.
Aquafit classes combine gentle water resistance with fun, energizing movements, offering a low-impact workout that strengthens muscles, improves flexibility, and boosts cardiovascular fitness.
Swimming skills are not required and there is no need to get your hair wet.
You are welcome to bring your baby with you to these classes. Your baby will sit safely in one of our floating seats beside you in the water. Babies must be able to hold their head up and should be no older than 3 years of age.
Let the water ease you. Gentle stretching, range of motion and mobility exercises for muscle or joint injuries, post-surgery recovery or arthritis. Calming music to help you relax. Enjoy our steam room afterwards!

Recreational Swimming
Our recreational and lane swim options offer something for everyone. Connect with other swimmers, improve your swimming skills, and enjoy the health benefits of staying active in the water.
This time is reserved for those who wish to swim lengths of the pool. Lanes 1 and 8 are designated as our leisure and slow lane. If numbers allow, swimmers may swim side by side in these lanes. Lanes 2 through 7 are our medium and fast lanes. We require swimmers in these lanes swim in a loop to avoid collisions and over-crowding. During swims with reduced number of lanes, a leisure lane may not be available. Please choose the lane that best matches your swimming ability.
A time for people of all ages to enjoy the benefits of the warmer water in the leisure pool! Soothe your muscles with the jets after a workout or swim with your family and friends. Baby toys only will be available for use during this time. No spray water features are available at this time.
Enjoy swimming as a family! Have fun with the water features in the leisure pool including a whale tail! Toys and equipment are available for use. Children under 18 must be accompanied in the water and directly supervised by a parent or guardian to be admitted. The tot-slide is available for those under 42” (106 cm).

Adult open swims take place in the Leisure pool to give you time to enjoy the water without the structure of lane swims and the distraction of younger swimmers. Relax your muscles with our therapy jets or use this time for gentle exercise or physiotherapy exercises.
The deep end of the pool is for people participating in Aquafit class. The jets are available for those just wanting to relax.
