Cardiac Rehab at the YMCA

If you have experienced a heart attack, been diagnosed with heart disease or have had surgery related to a heart condition within the past two years, the Cardiac Rehab program is here to help you reclaim your health.

For more information, contact the Cardiac Rehab office at 519-376-4832

The Cardiac Rehab team consists of Exercise Specialists, a Registered Nurse and a Medical Advisor. This program is a partnership between Brightshores Health System (formerly Grey Bruce Health Services) and the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce, and sees well over 100 participants each year.

How it works

Whether you participate in our facility program or in a home program, you are supported by the Cardiac Rehab Team in order to exercise safely. You will be offered exercise sessions, tailored to your needs, twice a week for three months.

In addition, you will receive education and access to information to help you manage your cardiac condition and reduce your risk factors. You will be asked to complete an exercise stress test and assessment with our Cardiac Rehab Team prior to starting your exercise program.

There is no cost to you to participate in this program.

Depending upon your risk factors, comfort with exercise and preference, you will be offered an exercise program at the YMCA Health, Fitness & Aquatics facility or a personalized home exercise program with weekly contact from the Cardiac Rehab Team.

How do I book an appointment?

You may be referred to this program upon discharge from hospital by your specialist or you can request a referral from your Physician or Nurse Practitioner. Upon receiving your referral, a member of the Cardiac Rehab Team will contact you with an invitation to attend an orientation session.

The Cardiac Rehab Office is located in the Fitness Centre on the 2nd floor of the YMCA Health, Fitness & Aquatics facility. Please sign-in at the Welcome Desk.
