Home and Community Support Services (HCSS) of Grey-Bruce is a team of caring staff and volunteers who provide community based services that support independence and enhance the quality of daily life for seniors, adults and their families.
About the role
The Housekeeper/Respite Worker duties include, but are not limited to;
- Routine cleaning (dusting, laundry, bathroom cleaning, dish washing, disinfecting, etc.)
- Assist with recreational activities with client.
- Support client so caregiver can have respite time. Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia’s considered a benefit. Training available
- Ability to motivate and promote client participation in social, recreational and educational activities.
- Meal preparation
- Shopping & errands
No personal care is provided while working in this position. Duties vary according to the individuals need who is receiving the service, and are based on one of our service plans. The Respite Worker/Housekeeper must work within a client centered philosophy.
Candidates must provide a recent vulnerable sector criminal record search, be able to travel to client homes (within a 40km radius), and be physically able to perform key functions of the position.
This position is casual/part-time, with variable hours to start.
Skills required
Written and verbal communication skills are required, and candidates must be able to work with minimal supervision. A minimum one to three years volunteering with or working with seniors and adults with physical disabilities is preferred. Candidates must also be able to work safely and responsibility while working with the clients and during travel time.
Experience and knowledge working with people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia considered an asset.
