Interpretive Program Manager
Program/Dept: Cape Croker Park
Reports To: Band Forestry Technician/Park Manager
Type of Employment: Permanent
Wage: $27.75 – $34.50 per hour (Level 5)
Hours of Work: 37.5 hour per week

The Cape Croker Park is expanding its services to include Indigenous Cultural Tourism. As a result of this new initiative the Interpretative Program Manager will champion Cultural Tourism by developing and piloting new Indigenous Cultural Tourism services and programs including a Visitor Experience Program. In addition, the Interpretive Program Manager will monitor and evaluate, and where necessary take corrective action, or implement new initiatives and strategies to ensure effectiveness of services and programs and long-term sustainability of Cultural Tourism.
Duties and Skills
- Research interpretive programs which demonstrate the best practices of interpretation and visitor services, for Indigenous cultural tourism
- Develop and create a new Indigenous Interpretive and Visitor Experience Program ensuring alignment to Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation’s goals and objectives
- Lead, manage and coordinate the ‘pilot-testing’ implementation (May 2020 through October 2020) of the new Program(s)
- Monitor and evaluate, and where necessary take corrective action, or implement new initiatives and strategies to ensure effectiveness of services and programs and long-term sustainability of Cultural Tourism
- Create interpretive program content and related materials
- Coordinate marketing initiatives for cultural tourism services
- Respond to inquiries from the public pertaining to new Interpretive Programs
- Develop a Visitor Program Financial Sustainability Plan
- Ensure all Nawash policies and procedures including Occupational Health and Safety policies are always followed.
- Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabe culture and the Anishinaabemowin language
- Knowledge and understanding of the history and culture of the Chippewas of Nawash, our treaties and traditional territories
- Strong program development and execution skills with demonstrated ability to plan and deliver meaningful educational programs and experiences in a park setting
- Ability to effectively prepare clear, concise reports and maintain records
- Detail oriented with sound analytical thinking, planning, and prioritization skills
- Strong organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Work with various age groups and diverse groups of visitors
- Work closely with project partners, government agencies, park staff, schools and/or others to coordinate and schedule programs and Park events
- Coordinate, train, supervise, mentor, and manage part-time interpretive staff
- Manage assigned project budget expenditures and work with colleagues to meet funding grant contract requirements
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in related fields to Indigenous Cultural Tourism Museum Studies, Cultural Resource Management, Indigenous Tourism, Environmental Studies, Education, Recreation & Leisure Studies, or related field
- Minimum (4) four years of related experience
- Recent and relevant experience working with a First Nation Community
- 3-5 years management experience with demonstrated ability to effectively manage, coach and mentor staff
Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.
