YMCA Senior Socials

Looking for a chance to connect, stay active, and have fun with others in your community? Senior Socials are the perfect way to do just that! Join us twice a month, 9:45–11:45 AM at 700 10th Street East, Owen Sound. These gatherings are FREE for everyone, no membership required and include coffee, refreshments, games, activities, and friendly conversation. Each session is designed to support healthy aging through movement, connection, and community, helping older adults stay active, engaged, and thriving.

Some socials also welcome a local guest speaker who will share an engaging presentation on a variety of topics. These talks are a great opportunity to learn something new, hear from local experts, and spark meaningful conversations.

Here’s what’s coming up:

  • February 2 – “TOM Talk” 
    Join Heather McLeese from Tom Thomson Art Gallery and learn about Tom Thomson, the man, myth, and legend, exploring how his early life and graphic design training shaped his revolutionary approach to painting the Canadian landscape.

  • February 9 – Games, refreshment’s and connection. Try our NEW Multiball interactive screen!

  • March 2“Two Stations, No Trains”
    Join Zack McLean of Community Waterfront Heritage Centre, to learn how Owen Sound, once a major railway hub, ended up with two inactive train stations and explore the city’s rich transportation history.

  • March 9 – Games, refreshment’s and connection. Try out the new BlazePods!
  • April 6 –Bruce Trail: 856 kms of Discovery.”
    Join Audrey and Willy on their toast to retirement, hiking The Bruce Trail end to end, with references to the science, geology and history all along the Niagara Escarpment (i.e. black bears, rattlesnakes, ferns, orchids and a plane crash!). Illustrated with Willy’s end to end hike photos and news photos related to the Bruce Trail.

  • April 20 – “Finding Wonder in the World”
    Join the Owen Sound Field Naturalists for an inspiring presentation on discovering the wonder that surrounds us every day—right here in Grey-Bruce. This engaging talk will explore the beauty, diversity, and unique natural features of our region, while highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship. Learn more about the work of the Owen Sound Field Naturalists and how you can connect with, appreciate, and help protect the natural world in our own backyard.

  • May 4 – Financial Resources for End of Life, United Way of Bruce Grey
    Caroline from United Way of Bruce Grey will talk about the Financial Literacy Program, what a meeting with her is like, and talk through the United Way of Bruce Grey’s “Financial Resources for End of Life” booklet. This booklet outlines the programs and funding options available to help with the expenses after someone dies. The resource is targeted to seniors living on a low to moderate income and can be used to help prepare before you pass or help those left behind.

  • May 25 – Games, refreshment’s and connection.
